He remembers that he did have parents, but for whatever reason he was separated from them when he was very young; Yanisch assumes they are dead. Growing up on the streets wasn't too bad, for Yanisch quickly fell in with a gang of homeless kids. They looked after each other as best they could and if someone hurt a gang member, well, let's just say the children can be quite vicious. As Yanisch grew older, he soon realized that he did not quite posses the aptitude for thieving that his gang-mates did. He was competent, but they were truly masters of the art. Though relegated to more menial tasks, such as distraction or look-out, Yanisch never lost his devotion to his gang-mates, and they seemed never to lose their bond with him. It probably helped that his closest friend was Delita, who eventually became the gang's leader. The gang's success could not last forever. During one botched robbery, Delita was seriously injured. Yanisch tried his best to dress the wounds, but they just seemed too severe. Yanisch felt that he could actually feel Delita's life force slipping away. In desperation, Yanisch improvised a quick prayer to Olidammara, the trickster deity venerated by most rogues. Much to his surprise, Yanisch felt a strange power flowing through his hands as he touched his friend's wounds. Without even checking, he knew that the bleeding had stopped...but, still, he checked anyway. Yes, Delita was still breathing. Yanisch did not leave the gang, but found himself studying Olidammara in any way he could. He eventually found some older thieves who knew some of The Trickster's clergy; this introduction greatly helped his study and devotion. Yanisch still sees Delita once in a while (especially when his good friend needs some medical care), but he has started helping his newer friends with more of their own tasks and goals....
