Dear Stopscandal.com Parents:
Many thanks for all of your support during the World Premiere of Stopscandal.com at OPHS and our subsequent New York City trip! Again, it’s crunch time with regards to the show. As you may know, Stopscandal.com was reviewed for the region wide Cappies Critics and Awards Program in which OPHS participates. Below is an outline of events related to the upcoming Cappies awards.

- May 20 - Nominees/Commendees awards ceremony, 7 PM. Fairfax High School
- May 21 – Photo session for nominees, 3:30 PM
- June 10 – Cappies gala, 6PM at The Kennedy Center

- All nominees will be announced on Wednesday evening, May 16. Nominees are comprised of the following seven categories: Sound, Female Dancer, Male Dancer, Lead Actress in a Play, Lead Actor in a Play, Lead Actress in a Musical, Lead Actor in a Musical. Nominees are selected on based on the nomination process described on the Cappies website.
- All Cappies commendees for OPHS chosen by Mr. Wilson. Each school in the Cappies network will have four Cappies Commendations, determined solely by the theater director at that school. Commendees can be performers, student directors, tech personnel, or anyone the theater director wishes to honor. A senior achievement award recognizes meritorious service, of any kind, over an extended period, in high school theater. A rising star award recognizes meritorious service in high school theater, and the promise of more to come.
- On May 20 at 7 PM, Fairfax High School will host a Cappies Medallion celebration.
- This event is ONLY for the 4 commendees named by the theatre directors for their and Osbourn Park’s Cappies nominees, to be announced on May 16, plus the theatre director. This is an informal event, where dessert and drinks will be served. Each nominee and commendee may bring one parent. It is entirely optional, (including for theater directors) and any nominee or commendee who does not attend can either have his or her medallion picked up by a teacher or classmate, or can later pick it up during any workday at the Walnut Hill Center.
- At 3:30 PM, on Monday afternoon, May 21 (rain date: Tuesday, May 22), the Washington Post plans a photo session for all Cappies nominees This photo session will take place at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens near the Dulles Toll Road, in Vienna. We'll send out directions later. Other than sound, all persons should come in uniforms from their show.. Sound crew could come with some portable sound equipment usable as props.
- The Cappies Gala will take place at 5 PM on Sunday, June 10, at the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Formal wear is encouraged but not required. All nominees and commendees are encouraged to wear their medallions. Nominees must arrive by 3 PM, to rehearse their initial procession. Audience members are encouraged to arrive by 4:30 PM, to enable the Gala to begin promptly. A three-hour show is planned. There will be no intermission, but audience members will be welcome to take breaks at any time. Commemorative programs will be provided.
That’s about it for now. Again, thanks for all of the help and support during this year. You can check out further details on the Cappies Website, or for a reprint of this letter go to the OPHS drama website.

Robert Wilson
