The Book(s) of Experimental Might
This game will be using Monte Cook's "Book of Experiment Might" (BoXM) rules.
You wll need "The Book of Experimental Might"—and possibly "The Book of Experimental Might II"—to play in this game (links below), but not to apply for it.
There is no BoXM SRD or free online version of the rules. You can not play a spellcaster without the first book. If you play a Fighter1 or Rogue, the second book is useful to the point of nearly being required. Especially if you play a Fighter (or you will not have all the abilities Fighters get in the BoXM system).
1By "Fighter" I mean the class: Fighter. The other "fighter-types" (paladin, ranger) have tweaks in BoXM covered in the first book, but nothing earth-shattering in the second book.
You do not have to buy the books to apply to the game! Just make a standard 3.5 D&D character (following a few tweaks below) and we will convert to BoXM once you're in the game. Conversion will be easier if you stick to Core Rules only (PHB and DMG). A few more rules to keep in mind:
Character background
- No Evil characters
- No Chaotic Neutral (But Really Evil) characters
- I have the most fun in D&D when it is a cooperative endeavor. Major intra-party conflict turns me off and leads to a TPK when I DM.
- No bards. Well, if you really want to play one, we'll work something out. But they are not covered by BoXM.
- The Leadership Feat is NOT allowed
- No item crafting Feats. There will be no time for crating in this adventure and no discounted items in a PC's possession because s/he took an item crafting feat and made something "in the past."
- Your PC can not be from Greyhawk.
- Your PC must have some reason to be travelling to the Free City of Greyhawk.
Game Mechanics
- Everyone
- 28 point Point Buy for stats
- 8th level characters
- I STRONGLY discourge Prestige Classes (because most of them are crap)
- A Feat every level. Woo-hoo!
- Add your CON score to your hit point total. Double woo-hoo!
- Spellcasters
- There are NO specialist wizards in BoXM
- Familiars are not "automatic" for arcane casters; you must spend a feat to get one and they work completely differently from core 3.5 rules, so leave your toad at home.
- Clerics--don't worry about Cure spells; they no longer exist.
See you in the free city....
